Is Opportunity Knocking at Your Door?

Spring is sprouting around us earlier than usual. Are you ready for it? Consider this from the School of Seasons http://www.schooloftheseasons.com/spring.html “ Now spring is manifest. Demeter is reunited with her daughter, Kore (the essence of spring), who has been in the Underworld for six months and the earth once again teems with life. The month of March contains holidays dedicated to all the great mother goddesses: Astarte, Isis, Aprhrodite, Cybele and the Virgin Mary. The goddess shows herself in the blossoms, the leaves on the trees, the sprouting of the crops, the mating of birds, the birth of young animals. In the agricultural cycle, it is time for planting. We are assured that life will continue.”
Spring brings the potential for new occurrences, new ways of being and new opportunities. You can prepare yourself to welcome this new energy by cleaning and brightening the facing entryway to your home. If your front door needs a new coat of paint, get out your paintbrush. If you use your front porch as a catch all for your unused and unneeded stuff it is indeed time to declutter and move it out.
Vitalizing energy that flows into and through our homes and our lives enters our homes through the front door. This space should be considered shrine-like and treated as such.
Have you ever noticed that some elder people regularly sweep their front stairs and entryway, even when it appears to be clean & tidy? They are keenly aware that they are cleaning away unwanted energies and inviting in the benevolent and prosperous ones with each pass of their broom. That old witches broom has a lot more significance than most people are willing to believe! The Bagua or Pa Kua approach to Feng Shui recognizes that our front entry way is representative of our career and ability to support ourselves. I like to sweep and keep my front entryway clean and fresh at home and at the office. I cringe whenever I pass by a home that has blocked off its front door or has even removed the stairs to it and never replaced them…all I can respond with is Yikes!
Regular use of the front door of our homes and offices also promotes growth in all areas of our life. If you haven’t been using your front entrance, try making this small but significant shift in your patterns and see what happens. It might take you a few days to get into the new habit, but it will be more than worth it. And if you are one of those people who has blocked your front entry way it might be time to ask yourself what you are afraid of and what are you trying to block out of your life. Unfortunately by blocking out your fears you are also blocking out the way to your bliss. Face your insecurities one at a time. Fear is much bigger in your mind than it is in reality. You will discover that by walking through your fears they are short lived and much less potent than you believed.
Opportunity is also related to our appearance and presentation as we move out and about in the world. The first impressions idea is not just a marketing ploy for the fashion industry. If we are neat and tidy and generally carrying a positive attitude, we will attract a neat, tidy, and positive life. The words and sounds that escape from our lips also attract the same kind of energy back to us. Pay attention to the kind of energy that you are sharing out into the world. Are you the town whiner or are you the town coach? Also pay heed to the kind of thoughts that you let hang around you. The same principle applies here. What we put out into the world we attract back to ourselves. If you are having a lot of negative mindfulness do some mental housekeeping with meditation, a good uplifting book, movie, or chat with a positive friend. Laugh out loud whenever you can – sweep those dark thoughts away and don’t invite them back in. If this process is beyond your ability at this time, it is indeed time to reach out and ask for help from others and from benevolent forces.
Not sure where you stand with all of this? It is hard to judge our own surroundings or selves. Ask a good friend for their opinion of your home’s curb appeal, and impression upon entering your home and of your personal presence, and try to be open to consider what they have to say.
Knock, knock, knock…are you going to answer the door?
